2011 Movable bridge over the competition pool in Saransk

Description

Saransk is the capital of the Russian republic of Mordovia. Already 2010 the city has begun, to invest in infrastructure. Right next to the Ice Palace and the Sports Stadium, the palace of water sports was built. After the date of the opening was postponed due to delays in the other trades, was planned for December 2011 the completion of the bridge over the competition pool with a width of 25 meters.

The pool itself is built with a length of approximately 51,50m, so that the end position of the bridge results in a pool length of 50,02m. With a displacement of the bridge to 25 Meter gets you 2 separate pools with a length of 25 Meter. These pools can be used differently in training and competition.

Particularities

The challenge is to meet the gap dimensions to DIN EN 13451, an unknown locally standard. According to this standard are gaps between 8mm and 25mm dangerous and forbidden. In addition, an inexact formwork of the concrete or of the inaccurate mounting of the pool can block the movement of the bridge. Here we must not only think of the pool walls but also on the pool floor and the position of the rails.

The assembly work on the pool had been carried out without regard to the use of a bridge. These tolerances had to be, of course, already been realized with the concrete. Finally, the bridge across their path should not be obstructed.

Challenges

The items of this bridge had been lifted by a crane at the proposed site already in the open roof. Of course, the parts also blocked the review of the pool. Fortunately, the ceramic parts were not yet fixed. The staff, what should mount the bridge, was not previously trained. There was no motivation and a constant change of staff.

Construction process
